Find the right Door Handle for your washing machine Video transcript: Hi, I’m Shawn and today I’m going to show you how to replace the doorknob on this washing machine. Before starting, please make sure to disconnect the device from the mains. Often times when a doorknob is broken it will be in the closed position. This is because someone doesn’t have the patience to wait for the door lock to open, or the doorknob becomes brittle with age, either way you’re left with a jammed door.
Normally, when you squeeze the lever, the latch moves and the door opens. If the door handle is broken, the latch will stay in place and the door will not open. Therefore we will lift the cover and manually move the latch. The cover is fixed with 2 Phillips screws. You can see the door lock when the door is closed and if we move the drum slightly we can move the latch manually and the door will open.
Now we need to remove the door by unscrewing the screws holding the hinge in place. It held the door together with 6 screws. Now we can separate the door using a small screwdriver. The door handle is now removable and replaceable.
