When a fault code is displayed on your NEFF appliance, it indicates a problem, but not what that problem is or what has caused it. An appliance fault code simply detects and indicates the nature of the issue and provides the general area where investigations need to be carried out.

NEFF Refrigerator Error Code Solutions

Eliminating minor faults yourself.

Before you call customer service:

  • Please check whether you can eliminate the fault yourself based on the following information.
  • Run an appliance self—test (see chapter “Appliance self-test”).

You must pay for customer service advice-even during the warranty period.

Problem: E8, E33, E48

Reason: Ice cubes are jammed in the outlet of the ice cube container or in the ice crusher.

Solution: Open the freezer door and remove the pieces of ice jammed there (using a wooden stick if necessary). Then switch off the appliance for one minute or pull out the mains plug. The appliance can then be switched on again. If fault is still displayed, Customer Service required.

Fault: Temperature differs greatly from the set value.

Remedial action: In some cases it is adequate to switch off the appliance for 5 minutes. If the temperature is too high, wait a few hours and check whether the temperature has approached the set value. If the temperature is too low, check the temperature again the next day.

Fault: No display on the display panel.

Possible cause: The mains plug of the appliance is not in the socket properly. The fuse for the domestic supply is switched off.

Remedial action: Check whether the power is on, the fuse must be switched on.

Fault: Warning signal sounds and the temperature display on the freezer compaltment flashes.

Possible cause: The freezer compartment is too warm! Frozen food is at risk!

  • The ventilation openings have been covered.
  • Freezer compartment door is open.
  • Too much food was placed in the freezer compartment at once.

Remedial action: Press the “alarm off/Iock” button to switch off the warning signal and the flashing display. The warmest temperature reached in the freezer compartment is indicated on the temperature display of the freezer section for 10 seconds.

Note: Frozen food which has started thawing or which has thawed can be refrozen if meat and fish were above +3 °C for not more than one day or other frozen food was above +3 °C for not more than three days.

Fault: The interior light is not functioning.

Possible cause:

  1. The light switch for the freezer or refrigerator compartment is sticking.
  2. The light is defective.

Remedial action:

  1. Check whether the light switch can move.
  2. See chapter “Light”.

Fault: The appliance becomes slightly louder for a brief period.

Possible cause: Not a fault! Your appliance is designed to save energy.

Remedial action: Under certain conditions (e.g. activation of the Super function) the appliance must work harder for a brief period and therefore becomes slightly louder.

Fault: Appliance has no refrigerating capacity. The interior light is not functioning.

Possible cause: Power failure; the fuse has been switched off; the mains plug has not been inserted properly.

Remedial action: Check whether the power is on, the fuse must be switched on.

Fault: The refrigerating unit is switching on more frequently and for longer.

Possible cause:

  1. Appliance door opened frequently.
  2. Large quantities of fresh food are being frozen.
  3. The ventilation openings have been covered.

Remedial action:

  1. Do not open the door unnecessarily.
  2. Do not exceed max. freezing capacity.
  3. Remove obstacles.

Fault: The temperature in the refrigerator or freezer compaltment is too cold.

Possible cause: Temperature has been set too low.

Remedial action: Select a warmer temperature (see “Setting the temperature”).

Fault: The frozen food is frozen solid.

Remedial action: Loosen frozen food with a blunt object. Do not use a knife or pointed object.

Fault: Despite prolonged operating time, ice cubes are not being dispensed.

Possible cause:

  1. Tap turned off.
  2. Water supply is interrupted. Water pressure too low.
  3. Ice maker is disconnected.
  4. Ice and water dispenser is switched off. “IWD off” is lit on the display panel.

Remedial action:

  1. Turn on tap.
  2. Inform plumber.
  3. Switch on ice maker again (see “Disconnecting ice and water dispenser, ice maker”).
  4. Switch on ice and water dispenser again (see “Switching off ice and water dispenser”).

Fault: Despite prolonged operating time, ice cubes are not being dispensed.

Possible cause: Freezer compartment t00 warm.

Remedial action: Set temperature colder in the freezer compartment

Fault: Ice cubes are in the ice cube container but are not being dispensed.

Possible cause: Ice cubes are frozen together.

Remedial action: Remove and empty the ice cube container.

Fault: Ice cubes are jammed in the outlet of the ice cube container or in the ice crusher.

Remedial action: Remove the ice cube container and rotate the screw conveyor by hand. Loosen any jammed chunks of ice with a wooden chopstick.

Fault: Ice cubes are watery.

Possible cause: Ice cubes have melted-power failure or the freezer compartment door was not closed properly.

Remedial action: Remove the ice cube maker, empty and rub dry.

Fault: Water dispenser is not functioning.

Possible cause:

  1. Tap turned off.
  2. Water supply is interrupted. Water pressure too low.

Remedial action:

  1. Turn on tap.
  2. Inform plumber.

Fault: The ice maker does not make enough ice or the ice is deformed.

Possible cause:

  1. The appliance or ice maker has only just been switched on.
  2. A lot of ice has been taken.
  3. Low water pressure.
  4. The water filter is bunged up or used.

Remedial action:

  1. Approx. 24 hours is needed until ice production starts.
  2. Approx. 24 hours is needed until the ice cube container is filled again.
  3. Connect appliance to the prescribed drinking water supply.
  4. Change the water filter.

Never clean shelves and containers in the dishwasher. The parts may warp!

  • Before cleaning: Switch off the appliance and pull out the mains plug.
  • Take the refrigerated food out of the appliance and store in a cool location.
  • Clean the appliance with lukewarm water and a little washing-up liquid.
  • Wipe the door seal with water only and then dry thoroughly.
  • Clean the surface of the appliance with a soft damp cloth and a little washing-up liquid. Afterwards, rub dry.
  • After cleaning: reconnect and switch on the appliance.

Spilled water collects in the water collecting tray. To empty and clean, remove the filter. Wipe out water collecting tray with a sponge or absorbent cloth.
